SUMMARY:Belgian Surgical Week 2024: ‘Beyond the visible: surgical innovations ‘.
DESCRIPTION:Our next annual congress being the 25th edition of the BSW\, will be held in the Ostend Thermae Palace from 25th to 27th April 2024 with as theme  \n  \n‘Beyond the visible: surgical innovations ‘. \n  \nThis time we will focus on the integration of cutting-edge technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI)\, augmented reality (AR)\, ICG-guided laparoscopic and robotic surgery as well as molecular imaging in our surgical practices. As examples: molecular imaging guided surgery allowing to see tumour undetected by the naked eye or AI assisting the surgeon to guide surgery (cholecystectomy\, hepatic tumours\,…). Thus\, all technologies helping surgeons to improve surgical dissection and/or resection quality. \nAdditionally\, we will also explore the rapidly growing research on new therapeutic modalities (immunotherapy\, radiotheranostics\,…) and of the microbioma in surgical outcomes. \n  \nI am confident that the discussions taking place during this congress will contribute to the improvement of patient care and will increase our motivation to use these new technologies for our future surgical procedures. \n  \nOur RBSS annual congress remains the occasion for surgeons and trainees to meet and interact with each other. \n  \nDuring this year’s presidency\, several sections of the RBSS will organize postgraduate courses and workshops. \nMoreover\, driven by J. Lemaitre Chairman of the RBSS’ Educational Committee and in collaboration with the BAST\, the very first meeting on surgical simulation will take place in Nivelles on 29th September next.  \nTogether with the concerned sections\, educational tours (VATS\, Colorectal\, Endocrine\, HPB\, UGI\, Abdominal wall) will be set up during the academic year 2023-2024. \nEqually a 4th edition of the RBSS/BAST weekend will happen on 20th & 21st January 2024. \n  \nHoping to see you numerous at all these RBSS initiatives as well as at the 25th anniversary congress in Ostend.

However\, many residents miss out on opportunities to master advanced procedures. This course aims to fill that gap by offering hands-on training in the most common laparoscopic surgical techniques in the field of abdominal surgery. Under the guidance of experienced surgeons\, participants will gain practical experience using human cadavers. These experienced surgeons will guide trainees through the challenges and complexities of each procedure. Each participant will have the opportunity to perform at least one procedure in a human cadaver as a first surgeon. DESCRIPTION:Our next ATLS course in Belgium organised by RBSS\, will take place on 18 and 19 September 2024. This will be a Flemish language course held in the Skills centre (“Vaardigheidscentrum”) of the KU Leuven biomedical site Gasthuisberg. \nCourse Director: Femke De Haes. \nLocal site coordinator: Kelly Claes. \n  \nThe registration fees are 900€ for residents and 1200 € for consultants and open for RBSS and non-RBSS members.\nOnly physicians with a Belgian RIZIV/INAMI number can participate. \nPlease register using the button below\, after which you will be contacted by our secretariat who will coordinate with you in regards to the practicalities of the course. Places are limited and as such available only on a first come\, first served-principle.
