During the first half of 2017, the BAST conducted the first national survey on surgical education. The results, and in particular the results concerning gender diversity in surgical training in Belgium, were presented during the ASIT conference (Association of Surgeons in Training, our UK sister association) in Bournemouth on 1st-2nd April 2017. Another summarisation was given during our international debate on surgical education during the Belgian Surgical week in Ostend in May 2017.

We would like to present you our opinion article on gender diversity in Belgian surgical training. This is just a first insight in what we could conclude from our survey concerning the gender diversity topic. We hope to publish a final article concerning the four main topics of our survey (gender diversity, burnout, job-perspectives and visitation of our training) during the course of 2017.
